i want to be immortalized in gold!

"Quinn's signature piece in the art world is Self (1991), a frozen sculpture of the artist's head made from 4.5 litres (9.5 US pints) of his own blood, taken from his body over a period of 5 months"

"Self" by Mark Quinn

fucking weird.
it has to be kept refrigerated for exposition.

"This and other work using human bodily fluids are key to the artist's central preoccupation: the exploration of self and issues of mortality."

he also made these sculptures of kate moss in buddhist positions.
they're supposed to represent what women see as the highest form of beauty.

it's like, many women envy kate moss because of her "beauty" and her "physique" or whatever so she's suppose to represent what every woman wants to be.

it's genious, really.

he's remade that one into a 50kg statu.

"The sculpture, which is hollow, weighs about as much as the supermodel herself according to the artist, and is believed to be the largest gold statue made in the world since Ancient Egyptian times.

Quinn said of his choice of Moss as a subject: “I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment. But even Kate Moss doesn’t live up to that.” "

"Siren"

" 'This is not a portrait of a person, it's a portrait of an image twisted by our collective desires. She is a knotted Venus of our age' ... Mark Quinn on Sphinx.

The series of bronzes consists of seven sculptures of the supermodel in yoga poses, two of which consist of the earthy beauty transformed into a contorted figure with her ankles uncomfortably wrapped round her head. "

my personal favorite (at the montreal museum of fine arts):

"Road to enlightenment"
